Spray Foam Insulation Removal with Dry Ice Blasting

Need to remove spray foam from timber, masonry, metal, or another surface? GreenICE Blasting, a division of AeroX Industries, evaluates the foam, substrate, access, and finish you need before planning the removal process.

Get the surface ready for what comes next.

Spray foam can cover areas that need inspection, repair, or a new finish. Dry ice blasting is an option for selected foam removal and residual material cleanup, including details that are difficult to reach with scraping alone.

The appropriate method depends on the foam type, thickness, adhesion, and condition of the surface beneath it. A trial area helps establish the removal approach and the finish that can reasonably be achieved.

Targeted cleanup or a larger removal project.

From a focused cleanup to larger projects requiring multiple dry ice blasters, we plan equipment, crew coordination, compressed air, dry ice supply, and work areas around the agreed scope and schedule.

Have a shutdown window or a deadline for the next contractor? Include that timing when you request an assessment so it can shape the project plan.

What we need to assess your project

  • Project location and approximate area to be cleaned
  • Open cell or closed cell foam, if known, and its approximate thickness
  • The material underneath and the finish you need
  • Photos of the foam, edges, and access conditions
  • Site access, utilities, occupancy, and any deadline

A clear process, from assessment to cleanup.

1. Review the surface

Review your photos, project details, access, and schedule. Discuss a trial area where needed to check how the foam and underlying surface respond.

2. Plan the removal

Agree the method, equipment, work sequence, and expected finish. Plan containment, ventilation, site protection, and collection of the removed material for the specific job.

3. Complete the agreed scope

Carry out the planned work and review the result against the agreed scope. Dry ice sublimates, but removed foam and other debris still require collection and appropriate disposal.

Spray foam removal questions

Will dry ice blasting remove every type of foam?

Results vary with foam chemistry, thickness, adhesion, substrate, and equipment settings. Thick material may need an initial removal step before residual foam is blasted. Assessment and testing help determine the appropriate process.

Does removal leave the underlying surface untouched?

No removal method can guarantee that every surface stays unchanged. Existing deterioration, fragile coatings, and the bond between foam and substrate affect the outcome. Discuss the required finish and evaluate a representative trial area first.

Can you plan work around a short project window?

Tell us your scope and deadline. We can review multi-machine working arrangements, site logistics, and resource requirements before confirming a schedule.
